The Reel: Nate Parker takes on "Birth of a Nation"
Actor Nate Parker is not only interested in increasing the amount of role African American actors have to display their talents but also wants to increase the amount of African American stories coming to the big screen. His latest project The Birth of a Nation is no different. Sharing the same name as D.W. Griffith's 1915 controversial film The Birth of Nation, Nate Parker's film will tell the story of Nat Turner!
Both written and directed by Nate Parker, The Birth of a Nation is a historical period drama piece that tells the story of Nat Turner who led a slave rebellion in 1831. Currently in production, the film will be debuted at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival. Parker will act alongside Gabrielle Union, Mark Boon Jr., Aja Naomi King and Jackie Earle Haley.
