AFROPUNK @ Lincoln Center Outdoors

Featuring Vintage Trouble, LION BABE, and The Skins
AFROPUNK presents The Triptych: Wangechi Mutu

Live-wired Vintage Troubleshoots straight from the hip and blows apart modern soul, rock, and R&B. Yahoo Music says, “Imagine James Brown singing lead for Led Zeppelin, and you’ll get an idea of Vintage Trouble’s muscular in-the-pocket sound.”

LION BABE singer-songwriter and performance artist Jillian Hervey and instrumentalist and producer Lucas Goodman—draws on an eclectic mix of influences for their sonic and stunning visuals, which mirror the rich melting pot of New York cultures. Citing A Tribe Called Quest and Sergeant Pepper–era Beatles as early influences, the duo identifies with a generation brought up on the internet, with references from film and music of all genres and eras just a click away.

The Skins are an infectious Brooklyn-based band whose ages range from 15-21. They play like old pros, offering a soulful interpretation of rock that today’s audiences crave, while proving age doesn’t matter.

The Triptych, a documentary series highlighting outspoken visual artists of our time, profiles the culturally resonant voice of Kenyan-born sculptor and artist Wangechi Mutu. Based in Brooklyn, Mutu’s acclaimed Afrofuturist works explore feminism, globalization, and the post-imperialist age.

SummerStage presents: Smorgasburg in Central Park

Smorgasburg is returning to Central Park! After a (too?) successful trial run last fall, the renowned Brooklyn food market is back for one summer night only. Eat and drink specialties from 25 of our favorite food vendors under the evening stars, grab a couple beers or sip a glass of wine, and enjoy some outdoor tunes in the greatest park in the world. Some folks aren’t aware that since 2010 Smorgasburg has operated the food-and-beverage concession at SummerStage, where four food vendors set up for all 50+ shows every summer. Asia Dog, Blue Marble Ice Cream, Lonestar Empire/Best Summer, and Pizza Moto. What a great foundation for a full-blown food fest! Look out for Smorg standbys like Mighty Quinn’s, Ramen Burger, Cemitas, Lumpia Shack, and Milk Truck, plus the best of this year’s new faces at the market (stay tuned for the full vendor lineup).

Tickets are $10, which includes a $5 food voucher at the door.
