The Reel: An Inspiration for Beyoncé's Lemonade, Daughters of the Dust, to be Re-Released

Everyone is still talking about Beyoncé's Lemonade! Most people have discussed the images and the ideas conveyed in her visual album! But I want to take a moment to discuss one of the inspiration's of Beyoncé's...a film named "Daughters of the Dust."

Julie Dash's "Daughters of the Dust" was the first film to be directed by an African American to have a national release! The film tells the story of a family of Gullah women in the 1900s living on Sea Island who migrate to mainland America. Currently the film is only available on DVD but thanks to a digital restoration, "Daughters of the Dust" will now be re-released in the theaters. On the eve of the film's 25th Anniversary, the Cohen Film Collection" will bring the film back for of all us to see!
