The Briefing: Akon Lighting Africa Initiatives Launches "Solar Academy"

Sengalese-American singer Akon, Thione Niang and Samba Bathily joined forces in 2014 to create Akon Lighting Africa Initiative. The Initiative aims to develop innovative solar powered solutions needed to create clean and affordable sources of electricity to African villages. One of the key components of the initiative is the Solar Academy, an institution that will give African entrepreneurs and engineers the tools and skills, they need to harness and develop solar power. This summer the Solar Academy will open in Bamako, Mali.
